It is not usually the case that an image I create is to my liking right off the bat. On the contrary! In fact I often do multiple iterations, trying different processes and techniques each time. If I'm serious about something I usually start with several small thumbnails, figuring out what I want to do and how. then I proceed to larger format. Because watercolor behaves differently at larger scale than it does at thumbnail size I often end up doing multiple iterations at a larger size.
I don't love doing this because I feel it some times saps the freshness from what I liked in the first place; and I can get bored repeating the same theme over and over again. But as they say, practice makes perfect! Or at least it gets you a little closer each time. Most of the time.
